Experienced, Not Expired
On being capable, willing, and overlooked
My hair is getting thinner
It has a streak of gray
There are wrinkles when I smile
I’m tired before end of day
But my mind’s still pretty sharp
Those problems I can crack
If someone would just hire me
I still have the knack
I’m stuck in a sort of limbo
It won’t seem to go away
I’m too old to get hired
Too young for retirement day
I won’t need lots of training
I pick things up real quick
If someone would just give me a chance
That seems to be the trick
There’s great value in experience
I have wisdom and knowledge galore
But managers know that doesn’t come cheap
They think I’ll cost them more
Just give me a task to do
Pay me a decent wage
I’ll start from the beginning again
Didn’t expect that at this age
My mind needs to be challenged
My bank account needs assistance
You need a problem solver
And I have the persistence
I just need an offer
A place to ply my trade
Some time to show my usefulness
I guarantee I’ll make the grade
